Silent Symphony

Around here, Cold winter nights are filled with silence , except for the crazy rooster who feels the need to crow at 2:30 in the morning, which usually gets a response from anyone of five other roosters.

I always look forward to the night sounds of Spring. The mating calls of the various frogs that call from the surrounding swamps and vernal pools therapeutically fill the night with music. to me this is a true indicator that spring is here and the landscape will soon be changing from winter grey to summer green.

So far this year, the night volume has been drastically turned down. The swamp is nothing more than mud, and the small vernal pools are bone dry.
Most of the resident frogs that depend on the spring rains have remained silent as they wait for the rain to fill their breeding pools.

I have only witnessed the river this low during the dog days of summer. Typically the spring rains can be a cause for concern with the river over running it's banks and the homestead experiencing a minor or major flood.

So with the weather man calling for 2 inches of rain today and tomorrow, I can't believe I am saying, "Give us More Rain"
Please bring back the music.

Praying that you will get the needed rain for the well and river. I love the signs of Spring and the "peepers" at night. It has been so cold here we have had frost. Love to all, Mom
