African Friends

Here are our 2 Sulcata or African Spurred Thigh Tortoise. They are the 3rd largest Tortoise in the world. At this point they are approximately 30 lbs, and can weigh upwards of 150 lbs. They get excited and move very fast when they think they will get a apple. During the summer they graze out in the field and in the winter we have a very large pen in the basement for them.

I do not think it will be long before the Deer
are bold enough to knock on the door for food. a very common sight around here is 6 or 7 Deer lined up in the backyard eating the Duck's corn. The 2 in the picture came almost up to the front door while the single Fawn came within a few feet of the door. ( They ate my Pumpkin plants)

Jeanne insisted on this post.

Last Summer I enlisted the 3 kids to help cleanup the river. The river was the lowest I had ever seen. On this day we removed about 7 tires and many bottles

Lazy Days

I needed to post this picture of 1 of the 13 Toulouse Geese we have here. After the 2 previous post I needed something a bit more laid back. This fellow is as laid back as you can get.

I really DETEST No Trespassing signs. The last thing I want is to post my property. I have neighbors that run there dogs in the field. I had a photographer sneak thru the woods and thorns thinking my Guinea Fowl was some new exotic species.( I watched and never had the heart to tell him he could walk up to them.) I have had young couples picnic in the grass. I never have a problem with sharing.

But last night a moron decided to drive around in circles in the field. This was not the first time. I cannot bring myself to hang the signs.

I think I will build a gate!

A Full Hen House

The Hen House is full with our 16 Guinea Fowl and our flock of 4 Rhode Island Reds, 4 Barred Rocks, and 4 Buff Orpingtons. Now the girls need to start giving up some eggs.

Bath Time

This year the kids collected Duck eggs from around the yard and we put them in the incubator. This is one of two hatches we had here. All baby Ducks get a turn in the Bathtub.

Jeanne's Chicken Hutch

I am sort of proud of this piece. Jeanne asked me to build her a hutch and I believe I did this in record time. Great place to display some of her many Roosters. Not a bad collection for a ex city girl.

Simon Comes Home.

This is Simon.
Approximately 13 years ago I hatched some 3 Toed Box Turtles in a home made incubator. I gave a Friend Jen Hopkins one. Well after 13 years Jen called and asked if I would like to take him back.
Naturally i said Yes.

My Best Bud

This is my hired hand at the future site of our Gazebo. I planted the Wisteria a year ago. My hope would be to have beautiful gardens in a park like setting for when the kids want to get married. The only proplem with this plan is i told Jordan she cannot date or get married till she is 30 or I am buried 6 feet under.

Little Jewels

As the late great Steve Irwin would say.
"Look At These Beauties"Check Spelling
I found these in the basement sub pump well last fall. i kept them over the Winter in moist Peat Moss until the spring and
I released them along a little stream outback.

Who Goes First

We have a routine we follow when raising our Ducks. We keep them penned until they are fully feathered. Then we turn them loose and it takes a bit of time, sometimes a week or so before they will test out the river.

The picture here is of 3 Runner Ducks, 2 White Emblem Geese and Venture the Canada Goose, and they are trying to decide if the river is a good thing.
